Naukri: Hiring in telecom sector up 36% YoY in August 2014:INDIA

According to Naukri.com’s Job Speak Index, an indicator of job listings on the portal, hiring activity in the telecom sector has grown by 36% year-on-year (YoY) between August 2013 to August 2014.
On a month-on-month basis, the Job Speak Index for the telecom sector grew slightly from 809 in July to 827 in August this year, although the index had seen a significant month-on-month rise in July from the 693 in June 2014. Note that the index uses the total number of jobs posted in July 2008 scaled to 1000, as a base.
Overall, the hiring activity saw a YoY growth of 18% in August 2014 over the corresponding month last year, as the overall Job Speak Index stood at 1478 in August this year.

Sectors: Other than the telecom sector, IT, banking and BPO sectors also saw a strong YoY growth with 24% growth in the IT sector and 26% growth in both, the banking and BPO sectors. On the other hand, auto and pharma industries saw a 13% YoY growth, while insurance and oil & gas sectors grew marginally with 8% and 2% growth respectively.
Cities: City-wise, Delhi-NCR saw the highest YoY growth in August 2014, with a 24% increase in hiring followed by Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata at 22%, Pune with 20%, Hyderabad with 17% and Mumbai with 11%. Month-on-month though, hiring across all cities saw a decline when compared to July 2014.

Hiring trends: The demand of BPO professionals saw the maximum YoY growth with the index moving up by 29% in August 2014, compared to last year. Professionals in the IT and HR sectors also saw a strong demand with hiring up by 24% and 27% respectively.
Experience: Hiring activity saw a YoY upsurge across all experience levels with 1% to 3% increase in hiring levels in August 2014 as compared to the same time last year.
